Political (In)stability on the Balkans

🇬🇧So close and yet so far. Located in the immediate neighborhood of our country, the Balkans is undoubtedly one of the most exciting geopolitical regions in Europe, still there is relatively little knowledge about its current political issues, tensions, and challenges. Should you be interested, you can get first-hand information about the current political processes in the "gunpowder barrel” of Europe at the 20 October conference of the MCC School of Social Science and History.

With the help of analysts from the Zagreb-based Institute for Development & International Relations, the Belgrade-based Institute of European Studies, and the Budapest-based Institute of Foreign Affairs and Trade, we explore the possible impacts of the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, the inflation, and the constant migration pressure on the political constellations in Western Balkan countries. Further, experts from the University of Sarajevo and Aljazeera Balkans will provide us a detailed insight to the social-economic-political challenges of Bosnia-Herzegovina, with special regards to the results of the October 2022 general elections. Las but not least, with experts from the European Security and Defense College and the Sofia-based Center for Study of Democracy, we are looking at the possible reasons for the continuous government crises in Sofia and whether the country is preparing for another early parliamentary election, or the 2 October ballot put an end to the unprecedented political uncertainty in Bulgaria?

A Hazánk közvetlen szomszédságában található Balkán-félsziget kétségkívül kontinensünk egyik legizgalmasabb szeglete, mégis keveset hallunk a térség országaira jellemző jelenlegi politikai folyamatokról, feszültségekről, kihívásokról. Az MCC Társadalom- és Történelemtudományi Iskolájának október 20-i konferenciáján elsőkézből juthatsz minden információhoz, amit tudni akartál „Európa puskaporos hordójának” aktuális helyzetéről.

A Szarajevói Egyetem kutatóival és az Aljazeera Balkans műsorvezetőjével Bosznia-Hercegovina társadalmi–gazdasági–politikai kihívásairól beszélgetünk, a 2022 októberi általános választások kiértékelésének apropóján. A European Security and Defence College és a Centre for Study of Democracy bolgár szakértőivel arra keressük a választ, mi lehet az oka a folyamatos kormányválságoknak Szófiában? Készülhetünk az újabb előrehozott parlamenti választásra, vagy a szűk 2 esztendőn belüli negyedik voksolás eredményeként vére sikerülhet kormányzóképes alternatívát állítani Bulgária élére? A zágrábi Institute for Development & International Relations, a belgrádi Institute of European Studies, valamint a budapesti Külügyi és Külgazdasági Intézet elemzőivel pedig feltárjuk a nyugat-balkáni régióra jellemző politikai folyamatok körülményeit és eredőit, különös tekintettel az ukrajnai háború, az energiaválság, az infláció, valamint a konstans migrációs nyomás következtében kialakult feszült helyzetre.
