Despite the distance between Europe and Indo-Pacific countries developing and strengthening cooperation is inevitable. The Indo-Pacific region has a key role in the EU’s economic growth and the EU is one of the major partners in the region. What can we expect from the growing partnership and how can it reshape the future of the strategic thinking of the partners in the field of geopolitics? These questions, among others, will be answered by Dr. Kei Hakata, a professor of Seike University (Tokyo).

Dr. KEI HAKATA is a professor at the Faculty of Humanities, Seikei University, teaching international politics and security issues. After earning his doctorate in public law at the University of Nancy II in France, he worked for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His responsibilities there included bilateral diplomacy with African countries as well as the post-war reconstruction of Afghanistan. Since 2005, Dr. Hakata has been teaching full-time at Seikei University. He was also a visiting scholar at Ateneo de Manila University (The Philippines), Oxford University (U.K.), the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade (Hungary), and most recently National Tsing Hua University (R.O.C. Taiwan). His recent publications include Indo-Pacific Strategies: Navigating Geopolitics at the Dawn of a New Age (co-edited with Brendon J. Cannon, Routledge, 2021) and its Japanese edition (Chuokoron Shinsha, 2022).
DR. CSABA MOLDICZ is the Head of the Centre for International Economy at MCC since October 2022. His main research area is the economic relations between the European Union and China, with a focus on the Central and Eastern European region. He has edited several books and published two monographs. His first book, published in Hungarian, was written in response to the 2008-2009 crisis, while his second book, published in 2020 by Routledge, focused on the European dimension of the US-China technological rivalry.

DR. KEI HAKATA a Seikei Egyetem Bölcsészettudományi Karának professzora, nemzetközi politikát és biztonsági kérdéseket tanít. A franciaországi Nancy II. Egyetemen közjogból doktorált, melyet követően a japán Külügyminisztériumban dolgozott. Portfóliójába az afrikai országokkal folytatott kétoldalú kapcsolatok és Afganisztán háború utáni újjáépítése tartozott. Vendégkutató volt az Ateneo de Manila Egyetemen (Fülöp-szigetek), az Oxfordi Egyetemen (Egyesült Királyság), a Külügyi és Külgazdasági Intézetben (Magyarország), és legutóbb a Nemzeti Tsing Hua Egyetemen (Tajvan). Legutóbbi publikációi közé tartozik az Indo-csendes-óceáni stratégiák: ’Navigating Geopolitics at the Dawn of a New Age’ (Társszerkesztő: Brendon J. Cannon, Routledge, 2021) és annak japán kiadása (Chuokoron Shinsha, 2022).
DR. MOLDICZ CSABA az MCC Külgazdasági Műhelyének vezetője 2022 októberétől. Fő kutatási területe az Európai Unió és Kína gazdasági kapcsolatainak vizsgálata, ezen belül külön hangsúlyt kap a közép-kelet-európai térség. Számos könyv szerkesztője, két monográfiát is publikált. Az első, magyar nyelven megjelentetett könyve a 2008-2009-es válságra reflektálva született, míg a 2020-ben a Routledge-nél kiadott könyve az Egyesült Államok és Kína technológiai vetélkedésnek európai vetületére koncentrált.
