A politikusok és a döntéshozók rendszeresen állítják, hogy a család az emberi társadalom alapvető egysége. De mire is épül ez az állítás? Mi a „családpolitika” filozófiai alapja? Míg a nyugati gondolkodók korántsem értenek egyet abban, hogy a családot pozitív politikai intézményként definiálják, van egy hagyomány, amely a családot úgy értelmezi, hogy konstruktív kapcsolata van a politikai élettel. Ez az előadás azt vizsgálja, hogy a nyugati politikai gondolkodók hogyan alakították ki a család és a politikai társadalom közötti kapcsolatokat az ókori Görögországtól a modern korig.

Politicians and policy-makers regularly make claims that the family is the fundamental unit of human society. But what does this claim rest upon? What is the philosophical basis for "family politics"? While western thinkers have been far from uniform in framing the family as a positive political institution, there is a tradition which understands the family as having a constructive relationship to political life. This lecture will explore the ways western political thinkers have framed the connections between the family and political society, from ancient Greece through to the modern era.
