China has tightened its relationship with many Latin American countries in the past two decades, which resulted in becoming the region’s most important export market and the second-largest trading partner (after the United States) in goods in the region. If the current tendency continues, what can we expect: what is the future of the mutually beneficial relationship between China and Latin American countries? In our next lecture, our distinguished guest, Carol Wise, Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California, will present the main findings of her book entitled ’Dragonomics: How Latin America Is Maximizing (or Missing Out on) China's International Development Strategy’.

PROF. CAROL WISE is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California (USC). She has written widely on trade integration, exchange rate crises, institutional reform, and the political economy of market restructuring in Latin American and other emerging economies. Wise is author of the book, Dragonomics: How Latin America is Maximizing (or Missing Out) on China’s International Development Strategy (Yale University Press, 2020), which received USC’s Phi Kappa Phi Faculty Recognition Award in 2021 and the Luciano Tomassini 2021 Award-Honorable Mention for the Best Book on International Relations from the Latin American Studies Association. She is also co-editor of Unexpected Outcomes: How the Emerging Economies Survived the 2008-09 Global Financial Crisis(Brookings, 2016), and co-editor of The Political Economy of China-Latin American Relations in the New Millennium (Routledge, 2016). Wise’s most recent journal article is “Grand Development Strategy or Simply Grandiose? China’s Diffusion of Its Belt & Road Initiative into Central Europe” (with Oldrich Krpec), New Political Economy (2021). Her current book-length project compares development trajectories between emerging economies in Latin America and Central/Eastern Europe. Wise Holds a PhD in Political Sciencefrom Colombia University.
DR. CSABA MOLDICZ is the Head of the School of International Relations. His main research area is the economic relations between the European Union and China, with a focus on the Central and Eastern European region. He has edited several books and published two monographs. His first book, published in Hungarian, was written in response to the 2008-2009 crisis, while his second book, published in 2020 by Routledge, focused on the European dimension of the US-China technological rivalry.

PROF. CAROL WISE a Dél-Kaliforniai Egyetem (USC) politikatudomány és nemzetközi kapcsolatok professzora. A Kolumbiai Egyetemen politikatudományból szerzett PhD-fokozatot. Számos publikációja jelent meg latin-amerikai és más feltörekvő gazdaságok kereskedelmi integrációjáról, árfolyamválságokról, intézményi reformokról és a piaci szerkezetátalakítás politikai gazdaságtanáról. DR. MOLDICZ CSABA az MCC Nemzetközi Kapcsolatok Iskolájának vezetője. Fő kutatási területe az Európai Unió és Kína gazdasági kapcsolatainak vizsgálata, ezen belül külön hangsúlyt kap a közép-kelet-európai térség. Számos könyv szerkesztője, két monográfiát is publikált. Az első, magyar nyelven megjelentetett könyve a 2008-2009-es válságra reflektálva született, míg a 2020-ben a Routledge-nél kiadott könyve az Egyesült Államok és Kína technológiai vetélkedésnek európai vetületére koncentrált.
