Given the ongoing crises in Ukraine and the Middle East, coupled with the context of the 2024 American presidential election, there is perhaps no topic more pressing than that of statesmanship. The aim of this discourse is to delve into both the historical and theoretical aspects of statesmanship, while also drawing connections to contemporary events.

In February 2024, John Burtka released a book titled "Gateway to Statesmanship: Selections from Xenophon to Churchill" through Regnery Publishing. This compilation features seminal texts on statesmanship spanning various eras, from ancient times to the modern age, offering practical insights for present-day leaders. These timeless works illuminate the arduous decisions inherent in leadership, shaping lives and character.

Let us explore the evolution of statesmanship in political thought across centuries, and glean from classical doctrines the enduring wisdom they impart for today's leaders.

John Burtka is the president of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, which was founded in 1953 by William F. Buckley Jr. to educate college students on the principles of the Western Heritage and Judeo-Christian tradition. Formerly, he was the executive director of The American Conservative magazine.

Az ukrajnai és a közel-keleti válság, valamint a 2024-es amerikai elnökválasztás összefüggésében talán nincs is sürgetőbb téma, mint az államférfiúság. E diskurzus célja, hogy elmélyedjen az államvezetés történelmi és elméleti aspektusaiban, miközben kapcsolatot teremt a kortárs eseményekkel is.

2024 februárjában John Burtka könyvet adott ki Gateway to Statesmanship címmel a Regnery Kiadó gondozásában. Ez az összeállítás az államférfiúságról szóló, különböző korszakokat átfogó, az ókortól a modern korig terjedő, korszakalkotó szövegeket tartalmaz, gyakorlati meglátásokat nyújtva a mai vezetők számára. Ezek az időtálló művek megvilágítják a vezetésben rejlő nehéz döntéseket, amelyek életet és jellemet formálnak.
